Science Fair Project Information
Title: Compare air oxygen content in the forest to that in the city
Subject: Environmental Sciences
Subcategory: Air pollution
Grade level: Elementary School - Grades 4-6
Academic Level: Ordinary
Project Type: Experimental
Cost: Low
Awards: 1st place, Canada Wide Virtual Science Fair ($50)
Affiliation: Canada Wide Virtual Science Fair (VSF)
Year: 2014
Materials: Oxygen detector
Description: The general public feeling is that the air oxygen content outdoors, like in a forest, is greater than in the air of the city, and feeling of the breath shortening in the city is caused specifically by the lack of oxygen. Using a portable oxygen detector, direct measurements of the air oxygen content have been performed at different sites of the Moscow city and 100 km away. Results were tabulated and compared. Also was tested the air oxygen content at different distances from an exhaust of a running car.
