Description: To identify phytotoxins (a substance that is toxic to plants) produced by Ascochyta rabiei (a fungal plant pathogen) at early stages of infection and understand the role of these phytotoxins in early onset of ascochyta blight; and identify defense proteins on the leaf surface of resistant chickpea lines.

Short Background

Ascochyta is a genus of ascomycote fungi, containing several pathogens to plants. The taxonomy of this genus is still incomplete. Some of these pathogens affect grass species, including grains.
