Title: Determine the contents of corn ash using Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) and test its fire extinguishing capacity compared to other commercial fire extinguishers.
    Subject: Chemistry
Grade level: High School - Grades 10-12
    Academic Level: Advanced
    Project Type: Experimental
    Cost: High
Awards: First Place, Canada Wide Virtual Science Fair (2007)
Affiliation: Canada Wide Virtual Science Fair
Description: Two teaspoons of solid corn ash were placed in a 50mL graduated cylinder; distilled water is added to the mark; two wooden sticks were soaked into the solution for 2 days; the wooden sticks were dried for 2 days. This steps were repeated using solid sodium bicarbonate. The time taken for the different wooden sticks to catch on fire was compared and recorded.
