Louis Pasteur (1822 - 1895): French chemist - invented the pasteurization process
Louis Agassiz (1807 - 1873): Swiss-American naturalist and glaciologist - the first to scientifically propose that the Earth had been subject to a past ice age.
Charles Babbage (1792 - 1871): English mathematician and computer pioneer - invented the precursor of the modern computer.
Robert Boyle (1627 - 1691): English physicist and chemist - gas dynamics.
Michael Faraday (1791 - 1867): English physicist and chemist - Faraday's law of induction, Faraday's laws of electrolysis
Fitzroy Robert (1805 - 1865): English pioneer of weather forecasting and the inventor of the Fitzroy barometer; best known as the captain of the HMS Beagle which sailed around the world with Charles Darwin aboard as naturalist. Fitzroy was a staunch believer in a literal interpretation of Scripture; sought data to confirm the biblical account of creation and appealed to Darwin to recant his theory but to no avail. He felt guilty his expedition was used to undermine Scripture.
John Ambrose Fleming (1849 - 1945): English electrical engineer - the vacuum tube.
Joseph Henry (1797 - 1878): American physicist - invented the electromechanical relay in 1835.
Sir William Herschel (1738 - 1822): German-English astronomer - Discovery of Uranus and infrared radiation.
James Prescott Joule (1818 - 1889): English physicist - First Law of Thermodynamics, Mechanical Equivalent of Heat.
Robert Hooke (1635 - 1703): English physicist - Hooke's law of elasticity, microscopy.
Lord Kelvin (William Thomson) (1824 - 1907): Scottish mathematician and physicist - formulation of the first and second laws of thermodynamics.
Johann Kepler (1571 - 1630): German astronomer - Kepler's laws of planetary motion.
Joseph Lister (1827 - 1912): English surgeon - Surgical sterile techniques.
James Clerk Maxwell (1831 - 1879): Scottish mathematician and physicist - Maxwell's equations.
Sir Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727): English scientist and mathematician - differential and integral calculus, universal gravitation, mechanics.
Samuel Morse (1791 - 1872): American artist and Inventor - Morse code and telegraph.
Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662): French mathematician and physicist - established the scientific method.
Joseph Priestly (1733 - 1804): English chemist - discovery of oxygen and photosynthesis.
Georg Friedrich Riemann (1826 - 1866): German mathematician - Riemannian geometry (a Non-Euclidean geometry).
Leonhard Euler (1707 – 1783): Swiss mathematician and physicist - infinitesimal calculus and graph theory.
John Napier (1550 – 1617): Scottish mathematician, physicist, astronomer - Logarithms, Napier's bones, Decimal notation.
